$85 plus $8.00 shipping and handlingWritten for the more than 1.5 million powered industrial truck operators in general industry as well as the construction and maritime industries, Forklift Safety: A Practical Guide to Preventing Powered Industrial Truck Incidents and Injuries, Second Edition, provides an updated guide to training operators in safety and complying with OSHA's new 1999 forklift standard.
Author George Swartz devotes the entire first chapter of his updated release to the new OSHA 1910.178 standard, which went into effect March 1, 1999, and mandates compliance by December 1, 1999. This revised standard aims to improve operator training programs and evaluations and thus reduce fatalities and injuries, which according to OSHA Administrator Charles Jeffress (OSHA news release, December 1, 1998), equals approximately 100 deaths and nearly 95,000 injuries annually.
This second edition of Forklift Safety also includes new information regarding dock safety, narrow aisle trucks and off-dock incidents as well as additional data on tip-over safety, pallet safety, and carbon monoxide. In accordance with the efforts of the National Safety Council, Swartz also replaces all reference to "accidents" with reference to "injuries" and "incidents," emphasizing that incidents, unlike accidents, can be controlled or prevented.
The appendices include quizzes for operator knowledge and procedure, additional sources of information for forklift safety, and the OSHA 1910.178 guidelines for powered equipment.
